I have a long way to go before I can consider myself anything besides a novice when applying makeup. I am fascinated by the sheer number of products on the market and the various techniques and skills involved in creating the ‘perfect’ look. That being said , I am trying to become more experienced in this area and so this also involves purchasing more makeup. Oh boy!
I am a sucker for sales (I REALLY need to work on my resistance levels, they are virtually non-existent) and so when I saw the cray-cray flash sale that Takealot was having recently , I decided to be a bit adventurous and buy a few items I could try without feeling too guilty if I didn’t end up liking them.
One of them was the Colorsensational Vivids Lipstick by Maybelline in the color Fuchsia Flash.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect because I already know that I am always attracted to pink lippies but this one was different. The colour online was super bright and in-your-face as opposed to the ones that I currently have which are a bit more muted and light.
Packaging : The packaging isn’t that sturdy but I guess for the price you pay, you should expect it. The lipstick has a silver base and a tinted cover which clips on and off easily. Not sure how this will fare if its been knocked about a bit but if you are taking this with you in a makeup bag , should be ok.
Colour & staying power: My initial thought when I looked at the colour is that it looked very Barbie – like. The pink is very bright compared to the ones I usually wear but I was willing to give it a go. I found that the colour is buildable depending on what your taste is in terms of how vivid you want the colour to be so more layers mean a brighter hue. Since I do have Indian skin I wasn’t heavy handed when applying my lipstick and opted for just a few swipes – I was just a tiny bit afraid it might result in a garish look. I liked the colour, it was indeed a bit brighter than I am used to but by keeping the rest of my face very neutral, this was the focal point.
Unfortunately, this isn’t going to stay on through eating and drinking like your luxury lippies but I have to admit that it does stay put for a couple of hours. You may need to reapply during the course of the day but it’s definitely worth it.
Price: There are ten different shades which are in the region of R100 upwards and some are available from Zando and Takealot. I am not sure if it is available in stores as this range did come out a few years ago. While these lipsticks may be categorised as ‘drug-store’, they do give you a really good colour payoff and the honey nectar formula means lovely, moisturised lips.
My overall opinion on Fuchsia Flash is that it lasts quite long and gives you a pop of colour when you need it and is undoubtedly value for money. I would definitely repurchase!
If you have tried this one or other shades, let me know what you thought of it in the comments below.
